While taking as few valuables with you when you're out surfing is recommended, items like keys (to a car or a storage locker) will have to remain with you. Use a waterproof case to keep your keys on you while in the water, by wearing the cord around your neck and under your wetsuit. Some wetsuits have a pocket with key loop allowing you to attach your key pouch. Key safes are combination padlocks that come with a compartment to hide your keys and other small items. Instead of leaving those under a towel on the beach, the locks can be attached and hidden out of plain sight and act as a deterrent to thieves.
