We’ve been getting our hands on the latest C-Skins technology and putting it through its paces in cold water. Here’s what we think of the new Halo X 3D.
When C-Skins told us about its latest cold-water innovation, we were keen to see how it would perform where it matters most: in the water.
We’ve had access to the new C-Skins Halo X 3D technology here at Wetsuit Outlet, giving us the opportunity to test it through proper cold-water sessions. And after getting plenty of time in the suit, there’s one thing that really stands out, warmth without making the suit feel bulky or restrictive.
C-Skins has developed Halo X 3D specifically for cold-water performance, combining a high-pile inner lining with an innovative three-dimensional X pattern designed to retain more of the heat your body generates.
And after testing it ourselves, we can see why C-Skins is excited about it.
So, what is Halo X 3D?
At the heart of Halo X 3D is a clever idea: trap more warmth, without simply adding more material.
The inner lining uses a three-dimensional X structure that creates tiny pockets of air between your body and the wetsuit foam. These pockets help retain body heat for longer, creating an additional layer of insulation while keeping the construction lightweight and flexible.
It’s a different approach to cold-water warmth, and one you can feel as soon as you pull the suit on.
The lining has a soft, high-pile finish that feels comfortable against the skin, while the structure of the material is designed to work with the body rather than against it.
Warmth where you need it
Anyone who regularly surfs through the UK winter knows that staying warm isn't just about the thickness of your wetsuit.
Cold water, wind chill and long sessions can quickly take their toll, so retaining the heat you generate is crucial.
The Halo X 3D lining is designed specifically around this. The three-dimensional X pattern creates small air pockets within the lining, helping to hold onto body heat and keep you warmer for longer.
Having tested the technology in cold water ourselves, the warmth is one of the first things we noticed. The suit feels warm without giving you that overly padded or cumbersome feeling that can sometimes come with heavily insulated winter wetsuits.
Quick-drying technology
Another clever part of Halo X 3D is that C-Skins hasn't focused solely on warmth.
The high-pile fibres are designed to wick moisture away from the body and dry quickly. That means less water sitting within the lining and, importantly, less weight when you're moving between sessions.
For anyone surfing regularly through winter, this is a big deal.
Getting back into a wet wetsuit for a second session isn't exactly anyone's favourite part of the day. A lining that can move moisture away from the body and dry faster helps the suit feel lighter and fresher when it's time to get back in.
Comfort is part of the performance
Cold-water wetsuits need to do more than simply keep you warm.
You still need to paddle, duck dive, pop up and move freely on your board – and that's where the feel of Halo X 3D really comes into its own.
The high-pile lining has a soft, cushioned feel against the skin, while the construction is designed to provide warmth without compromising movement.
Combined with C-Skins' latest wetsuit construction and natural rubber technology across its winter range, the result is a suit that feels focused on performance from the moment you put it on to the final wave of the session.
A more considered approach to materials
There’s also a sustainability story behind the technology.
Halo X 3D uses 100% recycled fibres in its lining, reducing reliance on virgin materials while maintaining the performance needed from a cold-water wetsuit.
It's part of a wider move from C-Skins towards more sustainable materials and natural rubber construction across its latest wetsuit ranges.
The latest NuWave suits, for example, use an 85% Hevea natural rubber and 15% chlorine-free synthetic rubber composition, combined with recycled materials and C-Skins' latest lining technologies.
That means the focus isn't simply on making a warmer wetsuit. C-Skins is looking at how the materials, construction and performance can work together to create a more considered winter wetsuit.
Where can you find Halo X 3D?
Halo X 3D is being introduced across C-Skins' ReWired, Wired and Wired+ series, putting the technology into some of the brand's most performance-focused cold-water suits.
We've been fortunate enough to get our hands on the technology before its wider rollout and, having put it through its paces in cold water, we're seriously impressed with what C-Skins has achieved.
For us, the biggest takeaway is simple: Halo X 3D adds warmth in a way that doesn't feel like you're simply adding more wetsuit.
It's warm, comfortable, quick-drying and designed around the realities of cold-water surfing.
And when you're standing on the beach on a freezing morning, looking at the sea and debating whether you really need to paddle out, having a wetsuit that can make those first few minutes in the water considerably more comfortable makes a pretty convincing argument.
